A 60 × 40 cm electric heating pad for back, neck, abdominal and joint pain

Most of the heat complaints we get in the UAE come from two places: office AC set to 19°C, and long commutes that leave the lower back locked up by evening. Heat helps with both. It won't fix a disc problem or an injury that needs a doctor, but for muscle stiffness, general soreness and period cramps it's one of the cheapest, lowest-risk things you can try.

This pad runs on 220–240V mains power with a Type G plug, draws 100 watts, and has 9 heat levels plus a 45-minute shut-off. Below you'll find the measured surface temperatures at each level, when heat is the wrong choice, and the specs most listings leave out.

Where people actually use it

Lower back

Sitting-related stiffness. Sit with it against a chair back.

Neck & shoulders

Drape lengthwise. Tension from screens and phone posture.

Abdomen

Period cramps. Lie flat, low or medium setting.

Knees & legs

Wrap and secure. Stiffness, not fresh swelling.

What's inside it

9 heat levels, with the actual temperatures published

Surface temperatures below were measured at the centre of the fabric with an infrared thermometer, in a 24°C room, 20 minutes after switching on. Your reading will run lower if the pad is under a blanket or pressed against a cold surface.

Level Surface temp Use it for
Low 38°C (level 1) Direct skin contact, long sessions, sensitive skin
Medium ~46°C (level 5) Over a t-shirt. Cramps, general stiffness
High 55°C max (level 9) Over clothing only, short bursts. Not for sleeping

Skin can be burned by prolonged contact well below boiling — sustained contact above roughly 44°C is enough over time. That's why the high setting is specified for use over clothing, and why the pad shuts off at 45 minutes.

45-minute auto shut-off

The controller cuts power after 45 minutes and the LED goes off. Press the power button again to restart. This is a safety cut-off, not a sleep mode — the pad is not designed to be slept on all night, and we'd rather say that plainly than sell you on it.

Detachable controller, washable cover

Unplug the controller at the connector before washing. Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with the controller fully detached. Do not tumble dry, do not iron, do not dry clean, and make sure the pad is completely dry before reconnecting power. Cover material is 100% polyester hypoallergenic plush velvet in charcoal grey.

LED controller with 250 cm cord

The display shows the active level so you're not counting button presses. Cord length is 250 cm from plug to pad, which reaches a wall socket from a sofa but usually not from the middle of a bed — measure before you buy if that matters.

How to get the most out of heat therapy

  • 15–20 minutes is usually enough. Longer sessions don't add much and raise the burn risk. Take the pad off, move around, come back later if you need to.
  • Heat for stiffness, cold for swelling. A fresh injury with heat and swelling in the first 48 hours generally wants ice, not a heating pad. Chronic tightness and cramps want heat.
  • Keep a layer between the pad and bare skin on medium and high. A t-shirt is enough.
  • Move afterwards. Heat loosens tissue; gentle stretching in the 10 minutes after a session tends to hold the benefit longer than heat alone.
  • Check your skin. Even redness that fades is fine. Blotchy, mottled brown patterns after repeated use mean you've been running it too hot for too long — drop a level.

When you should not use this pad

Talk to a doctor before using any electric heating pad if you have diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, poor circulation, or any condition that reduces sensation in the area — you may not feel a burn developing. The same applies during pregnancy, over open wounds or fresh scars, over an area that is already swollen or inflamed, and for anyone who cannot reliably operate the controls or say that it's too hot.

This product is a consumer comfort device. It is not a medical device and nothing on this page is medical advice or a treatment for any condition. Persistent or worsening pain needs a doctor, not a heating pad.

Questions we get asked

How long does it take to warm up?

You'll feel warmth within 30 seconds. Reaching the full set temperature across the whole pad takes about 10 minutes. Any listing claiming a full-size mains pad hits therapeutic temperature in under 15 seconds is describing the first sensation of warmth, not the actual pad temperature.

Can I sleep with it on?

We don't recommend it. The 45-minute shut-off is there in case you doze off, and it works — but sleeping on an electric pad every night is how low-temperature burns happen, particularly if you sleep heavily or have reduced sensation. Use it before bed, then switch it off.

Does heat actually help period cramps?

Topical heat is a well-established self-care option for menstrual pain and several clinical reviews have found it comparable to over-the-counter pain relief for many people. It doesn't work equally well for everyone, and it isn't a substitute for seeing a doctor about severe or worsening cramps. If it works for you, it works — that's the honest version.

Is the cover washable?

Yes, with the controller unplugged at the connector. Machine wash the fabric pad at 30°C on a gentle cycle . Never submerge the controller, never tumble dry, and let it dry fully — reconnecting power to a damp pad is the main way people destroy one of these.

What does the 30-day warranty cover?

Manufacturing defects — heating element failure, controller faults, seam failure — get a free replacement within 30 days of delivery. Physical damage, water damage from improper washing and normal wear aren't covered. Change of mind is handled separately under our 30-day money-back guarantee: return the pad within 30 days of delivery for a full refund, with return shipping at your own cost .

Will it run up my DEWA bill?

No. At 100 W, a 45-minute session uses roughly 0.08 kWh — a fraction of a fils at UAE residential rates. It draws less than a single incandescent bulb.

Can I use it in the car?

No. It's a mains-powered pad and needs a wall socket. There's no 12V adapter and using it with an inverter isn't something we'd recommend.
